Community groups and volunteers working throughout Albert-Eden were honoured at a recent event for their efforts to make the area kinder and more livable.
Many of the area's community groups are supported by funding awarded by Albert-Eden Local Board.
“The number and diversity of community groups working in Albert-Eden is astounding,” says Peter Haynes, Chair, Albert-Eden Local Board.
"The groups care for people, care for the environment, promote inclusion and togetherness and healthier lifestyles in so many different ways. Together they keep Albert-Eden a stronger, more vital place to live, work and play.
"The local board recognises this with the largest programme of grants to support community groups in Auckland, and is committed to continuing to do so."
The celebration featured an evening of entertainment showcasing some of the activities of past grant recipients. The night was also an opportunity for the community members to network and appreciate each other in building strong, resilient, happy communities.
Several local groups performed at the event, including The Auckland Swords Club, Dance and Art Therapy, Auckland Multicultural Society, Spanish Fiesta dancers with Jane Luscombe, Iai-Do Martial Arts group and VOLGA – Belly dancers, Folklore Chileno Latino with Ana Maria De Vos Sanchez.
