Hayman Park’s playground in the heart of Manukau will be the first of its kind in South Auckland.
The destination playground is a part of the first phase of a massive redevelopment of the area to make it an attraction for people of all ages and to improve the connection between Hayman Park and Manukau CBD.
The playground will occupy the north-east corner of Hayman Park, next to the existing skate park and will be built in stages.
The construction of the first phase commenced in September 2018 and is due to be completed in June this year. This phase will include the creation of new playground areas, a half basketball court, a plaza, feature architectural canopy, and a kiosk and toilet amenity building.
The second phase will include a bespoke play tower, four separate age-group playgrounds with assorted mounds, a flying fox and BMX bike track.
Inviting expression of interest for Hayman Park kiosk
Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board is inviting expressions of interest from commercial operators or community groups to lease the soon to be completed kiosk on Hayman Park.
As part of the new playground, the 4.4m x 3.6m building will be located under a covered seating area, with accessible male and female toilets attached and water and power supplied to the building.
The board wishes the successful organisation or group to provide services that will attract visitors to the park, such as:
- Education classes
- Exercise and well-being classes
- Food and drink vending
- Artistic performance (e.g. music, art displays and workshops)
- Community events
- Consultation events.
Please note that the council reserves the right to seek proposals and applications from other parties in addition to those who respond to this invitation, and to accept or reject any applications.
