If you are tired of unwanted weeds taking over your gardens, here’s some good news for you.
Māngere Ōtāhuhu Local Board has invested in informational brochures and other initiatives to help curb the common weeds in the Māngere Ōtāhuhu Local Board area.
This informative brochure lists 16 of the worst weeds that grow in the local board area and ways to identify and control them.
A copy of this brochure can be picked up from the following locations:

- Māngere Central Library
- Māngere East Library
- Ōtāhuhu Library
- Ambury Regional Park
- Māngere Mountain Education Centre

Further works
Over the past term, the local board has invested in ecological restoration at Ihumātao and Pūkaki Crater, two of Māngere-Ōtāhuhu’s special natural areas.
Special contractors have been planting thousands of new trees and shrubs in Pūkaki Crater, in an effort to stabilise the crater rim and enhance the biodiversity values of the site. An additional 10,000 trees are to be planted this winter at Pūkaki Crater.
Works in the Ihumātao catchment has included strategic weed control, tree planting and pest animal control along the Oruarangi Awa. Auckland Council, Department of Conservation and Makaurau Marae are working together to reduce all pests in this area to create a ‘pest free Ihumātao’.
