The Environment and Community Committee has signed-off $992,000 to the Three Kings United Football Club for the development of a new clubhouse at Keith Hay Park.
Three Kings United is one of the largest football clubs in New Zealand with membership exceeding 2400 registered players, of which over 1900 are under 18 years old.
“Football has a global reach and it is enjoyed by a diverse cross-section of our community," says Albert-Eden-Roskill Councillor Cathy Casey.
I’m delighted that Council has provided the funding necessary for Three Kings United to press ahead with their new clubhouse which will help the club continue to thrive and provide fantastic sporting opportunities, particularly for our young people."
A 2003 community consultation, part of the development of the master plan for the park, resulted in the relocation of the club’s 30-year-old clubrooms. Building a new clubhouse at the new site has meant additional building costs.
The club has already raised substantial funds to meet the costs and the council’s funding will fill the gap. Without this, it would have potentially meant lengthy delays for the project.
The new clubrooms will serve the wider needs of the community as a hub for activities at Keith Hay Park, with the facility available to people (including local schools) for meetings and events. The new clubhouse development is a further stage in the development of Keith Hay Park.
