Winter may be on the way, but you can keep summer alive with the news that the Kelston Community Centre has recently opened a new beach volleyball court.
Installed in April, it’s the only free all-weather professional sized doubles volleyball court in all of Auckland and helps to meet the demand for volleyball in the area. There are also deck chairs and bar leaners to utilise on site.
Fantastic example
Henderson-Massey Local Board Deputy Chair, Peter Chan says that the court is a fantastic example of the council meeting community need.
“This court came about as a result of understanding the needs of the community through a piece of outreach work that we did and acting on the results.
“Not only is this the only one of its kind in Auckland, but it’s in absolutely the right place too. We know that the community in Kelston would be really pleased to have this court available to them because of the large Pacific community there who enjoy volleyball.
“It's free, and it is open all year round to meet that need. So we are really pleased to see this come to fruition and hope its enjoyed for a long time to come!”
