Planning is underway to make Auckland an age-friendly city.
Auckland Council is inviting older people to share their ideas on ways to help maintain their wellbeing and active participation in the community.
Auckland’s older population – those aged over 65 years – is growing faster than any other age group.
Ageing populations are a worldwide phenomenon causing cities to review infrastructure and service needs for older people now and into the future.
The council, and partners who work with older people, are developing an Auckland Age-friendly Action Plan. This will be followed by an application to join the World Health Organisation Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities.
The network fosters information sharing between cities worldwide, so communities become more age-friendly.
Have your say
You can have your say and share your vision of an age-friendly Auckland on the Have Your Say website.
A series of community workshops discussing a range of topics affecting the wellbeing of older people are being held across Auckland too.
The workshops are free and take place during the daytime.
Email agefriendlyauckland@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz to register for a workshop.
