The next stages of Beachland’s Sunkist Bay Reserve development open for feedback on 30 June from 12-2pm at the Log Cabin.
Auckland Council staff will be on hand to explain the next stages, largely centred on access, seating, planting and place-making.
Franklin Local Board chair Angela Fulljames says better connections to the beach are proposed, including an improved pathway with lookout points
"Concepts also include more seating, so it’s important, given the range available, that we gauge what the public wants.
"More planting is being suggested to improve the area and support coastal protection, so again, it’s about establishing if there’s a preference for the type of plants and a combination of things that can come together to create first-class design."
Decisions around the first stages of the redevelopment centred on the seawall and toilets and have already been made, with the work now funded and scheduled.
"We need to be clear, this is not about relitigating the seawall. Those decisions have been made, but it is a chance to inform what happens going forward. We followed the advice of expert consultants and now we need to get on with providing enhanced public amenities."
The public can drop in at any time over the two-hours. They will be able to indicate preferences and attach them directly to the display material.
Friends of Sunkist Bay will be given a preview ahead of the meeting and board members Malcolm Bell and Amanda Hopkins will join Ms Fulljames at the event. Feedback will be analysed to inform the draft design to be presented to a board workshop for its input.
