As part of creating a reserve management plan for the wider Waikaraka Park area, input is being sought from stakeholder groups and the public on what they value about Waikaraka Park, and what they visualize for the park's future.
Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board has approved the resources to create a Reserve Management Plan for Onehunga’s Waikaraka Park, which includes the speedway, sports fields, cemetery and extension areas.
“This is the first step in what will be a multi-pronged consultation," says Chris Makoare, Chair of Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board.
"At this stage we are working closely with stakeholders, including Iwi, to help shape a draft reserve management plan which will then be consulted on again for feedback and final tweaks.
“Waikaraka Park is one of the oldest parks in the area and it has really diverse uses, so we expect to receive input from quite a number of community groups and stakeholders. The general public is also invited to provide input and suggestions, we have set up a consultation to ensure all interested parties are able to have a say.”
