Waiheke Local Board has awarded almost $26,000 in grants to community groups and projects under its latest grants round.
The amount includes funding for the community soup kitchen, a permanent community marquee under the management of Piritahi Marae, upgrading social service technology, and native tree plantings.
Waiheke Local Board awards grants to groups and organisations delivering projects, activities and services that benefit the community and contribute to the vision of being a world-class city.
Local board chair Cath Handley said the board worked hard to fund as many projects as possible that would enrich the environment and the community.
“We have been fortunate this round to have access to some additional funds. However need outstrips our resources every time,” she said.

Waiheke Community Art Gallery – $750 towards costs for the Matariki Exhibition
The Catherine Mitchell Arts Centre incorporated - $2700 towards acoustic insulation for the centre
Community Networks Waiheke - $1998 towards the Fun Palaces event in October
Waiheke Hope Centre - $2000 towards supplies for the community soup kitchen
Living Without Violence - $2000 towards new software
The Raukatauri Music Therapy Trust - $2000 towards the delivery of music therapy sessions
The Waiheke Resources Trust - $2020 towards a community fridge
Citizens Advice Bureau - $5306 towards new computers
Parents and Friends of Te Huruhi School - $1000 towards the Garden to Table project
Ko Tahi Aroha - $4000 towards a marquee which will be available for community use
Waiheke Golf Incorporated – $2000 towards golf holiday programmes
Multi-Board Grants
Environmental Education for Resource Sustainability Trust - $323 for native tree plantings and recycling bins
Next grants round:
The next grants round for projects between $2000 and $4000 will open on June 24.
Local board grants cover projects ranging from arts, community, environment to heritage and sports and recreation.
