Applications for the C40 Cities Women4Climate Auckland Mentorship Programme 2019 are open from now until 28 July.
The programme will match women who are emerging leaders in the climate action space with committed leaders from the business sector, public sector, international organisations and civil society. It aims to help participants become more expert influencers while mobilising others to be influential in their efforts to accelerate action on climate change.
Auckland Mayor Phil Goff welcomes the launch of the mentorship programme and encourages Aucklanders to apply.
“The Women4Climate network will provide young women in Auckland with the support they need to lead bold climate action in our city,” he says.
“It will help ensure the next generation of leaders are involved in the decisions we are making now to meet our ambitious environmental targets and commitment to hold temperature rises to 1.5 degrees.”
Women selected for the programme will engage in collective sessions with mentors and receive training that enhances communication and advocacy skills, addresses barriers, and inspires deeper engagement with climate change. Participants will receive all the support they need to become even more powerful leaders in their chosen field, including politics, NGOs, business, media, and community groups.
Waitakere Ward Councillor Penny Hulse says she is looking forward to sharing her experience with participants.
“What I have observed during my many years of advocating for climate action through my role in local government politics is an increasing amount of climate action being led by women,” she says.
“Now feels like the perfect time to really focus our energy on bringing together experienced women climate leaders with the wonderful young women who are making their voices heard in Auckland.”
