A $400,000 partnership between Auckland Council, the Pulman Park Trust and Ardmore Marist Rugby and Sports Club has delivered floodlighting for more sports fields at Pulman Park.
Manurewa-Papakura Ward Councillor Daniel Newman says the new floodlights increase the park’s useable hours, especially for mid-week training in winter codes.
"A partnership grant of $200,000 from the Parks, Sport and Recreation partnership budget was agreed in July 2018 to get this project underway. Providing higher quality sports field lighting at Pulman Park will go a long way to assisting our clubs to support players through the provision of safe, usable year-round facilities," he says.
Papakura Local Board chair Brent Catchpole says the board approved Locally-Driven Initiative (LDI) funding towards the development of the project as a top-up contribution to ensure the lights could be delivered.
"The board is delighted to have worked with the trust and Ardmore Marist to deliver a winning outcome. Our external funding partners can be assured we are committed to delivering facilities that meet Papakura’s growing demand for this type of sporting infrastructure," he says.
Mr Catchpole says he is also grateful neighbouring Manurewa Local Board Chair Angela Dalton secured Trillian Trust funding. “Ardmore Marist has many members from Manurewa, and her recognition that this project would also help her area needs to be acknowledged."
