The cooler weather isn’t putting people off riding bikes.
Across 26 cycle counters, 272,000 cycle movements were recorded in June 2019, an increase of 16.7 per cent when compared to June 2018.
Auckland Transport Chief Executive Shane Ellison says this winter is likely to be Auckland’s busiest for bike riding.
“In both summer and autumn this year, we recorded over one million cycle movements on our counters. More and more people are choosing to ride bikes in Auckland and as we built more safe, separated infrastructure, we will be seeing even more growth on our network.”
3.77 million cycle movements were recorded for the year of July 2018 to June 2019, an increase of 8.9 per cent on the previous 12 months.
AT will be constructing more cycling projects this year, with work getting underway on the Karangahape Road Enhancements this month and the construction beginning on the New Lynn to Avondale Shared Path in the spring.
