Work on the AMETI – Eastern Busway is progressing to schedule.
The $1.4 billion project to build an urban busway linking Panmure and Botany involves four stages that will in time deliver a flyover linking Reeves Road to the South Eastern Arterial, a Rapid Transit Network from Pakuranga to Botany, and a transport hub at Botany that will also service the Airport to Botany project
Howick Local Board’s AT monthly report says contractors are focusing on completing enabling works such as retaining walls, roads for heavy machinery to access work sites, and using earth to stabilise work areas.
While that work goes on Pakuranga Road’s T2 traffic lane is producing average travel times of about 10 minutes.
The lane, between Botany and Ti Rakau roads, was introduced as part of efforts to keep traffic moving while work takes place.
Auckland Transport says it will have a better understanding of the impact of the lane as more data is collected, and month-on-month comparisons become possible.
Before the T2 lane, the average Monday to Friday travel time between 7-9am for all vehicles in May and June was 10.4 and 9.4 minutes. Measurements since the T2 lane went live show the average Monday to Thursday time is 10.1 minutes.
A more detailed report will be compiled in upcoming weeks to determine trends, with AT saying more data is needed to see how the lanes operate.
