Over the last year, the $452 million raised through a water quality targeted rate has been spent towards ensuring we have cleaner beaches, streams and harbours across Auckland.
The funding has been used for several local projects to improve water quality in Albert-Eden; for instance, through the $412 million put into the Western Isthmus water quality improvement programme.
The programme invests in infrastructure projects to reduce overflows into the Waitematā Harbour.
What are the projects in the Albert-Eden local board area?
- Waterview separation: Healthy Waters is leading design work to extend and upgrade the existing public stormwater network and outfalls to Waterview Inlet.
- Meola Creek improvements: Healthy Waters is working with Watercare to assess options to divert flows from the upstream catchments to networks that have better capacity. This will reduce the incidence of manhole lids popping and allow for additional growth.
- Point Chevalier improvements: Watercare is leading initial investigations into the network system performance for the catchment, to provide a better understanding of network capacity for flooding events and future planning.
