Move over LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, the kids of Patumahoe are coming for you.
An outdoor basketball half court is being added to the village’s Clive Howe Road Recreation Reserve playing fields, and it will come with a blue and yellow colour scheme reflecting Patumahoe Rugby Club’s famous jersey.
Patumahoe local Roz Turnbull slam-dunked the proposal to add the court past Franklin Local Board, which will fund the work from its Local Development Initiatives budget.
She approached the board to add a hoop to an existing concreted area that could easily be transformed into a half-court.
The community supported her plan, keen to see more playing opportunities for children in the area, sending a raft of emails to the board, which welcomed the idea to transform the space into a more useful facility.
The court should be in place in eight weeks.
