Residents of 20 Rescare facilities across the city can look forward to more holidays at Maraetai after a new lease for its respite care facility on Maraetai Coast Road was granted by Franklin Local Board.
Nearly 150 people from 20 homes use the site for a change of scenery and holiday break, giving safe, community-based time away throughout the year for residents and their caregivers and families.
The board granted Rescare a 10-year lease with one right of renewal at $1 plus GST if requested.
There are also new leases for the Bombay Rugby Club, Clarks and Grahams beaches bowling clubs, the Scout Association and the Clevedon Lawn Tennis Club.
Bombay Rugby gets a lease on the Bombay War Memorial Hall, Clevedon Tennis on a portion of the Clevedon Showgrounds Reserve, while Clarks’ bowlers keep their Torkar Avenue home and can sublease space to Clarks Beach Playgroup. Their fellow bowlers at Grahams get a lease on the Domain Recreation Reserve.
The New Zealand Scout Association, for Clevedon Scouts, got a 10 and 10 lease on a portion of Clevedon Scenic Reserve referred to as Camp Sladdin that allows for overnight stays; and for Te Puru Sea Scouts it received a lease for a portion of Te Puru Park, though it includes a clause for the landlord to give 12 months’ notice if plans for the park affect the leased area.
All seven groups own all or part of their buildings. Where a group owns its building, it can automatically apply for a new lease when its lease runs out.
