The Manukau East Council of Social Services has been awarded $30,000 by the Howick Local Board towards its operational costs.
Meanwhile the arts, sport, ethnic groups, senior citizens, and parents and babies are all beneficiaries of community funding from the board. Requests outweighed available funds, with more than $360,000 requested, and $119,543 allocated.

- Love Dance Assoc, $2000 for performance costs throughout year
- Chinese Culture and Arts Centre, $1000 for Coca Cola Christmas in the Park event
- Eastern Stars Band, $5000 costs associated with support of all four bands
- Harlequin Musical Theatre, $3900 for new container – subject landowner approval
- Auckland Seniors, $2500 for weekly activities and venue hire
- Asthma NZ, $1400 for a computer
- Highland Park Creche, $4000 towards a one-year preschool programme
- South East Auckland Seniors, $1000 towards venue hire
- Bhartiya Samaj Trust, $15000 towards elderly support programme
- Life Education, $10,000 for programmes in Howick schools
- Scouts NZ, $1500 towards salary for Howick area general manager
- Dance Therapy NZ, $2500 for STARS Pakuranga programme
- CNSST Foundation, $2000 towards tablets
- Kids Safe with Dogs Trust, $1500 – subject Howick schools’ agreements
- Tread Lightly, $1500 for Elim College junior campus programme

- Parkinson’s NZ, $2000 for community educator salaries
- Children’s Autism, $2000 for ‘In It Together’ workshops
- Environmental Education Trust, $5000 for native plants and classroom bins
- Korean Society, $500 for 2020 community day
- North Piha Lifeguards, $3500 to facility replacement - subject to costs provided.
Applications for the second round of local grants are now open, closing at 10pm on 18 October. Decisions will be made on 9 December and all projects submitted must occur after 10 December. Grants from $250 to $3000 may be sought. Apply here.
