Park's parking taken up by buses

Papakura’s problems with buses taking up parking intended for users of facilities in Central Park continue.

Last year, bus layovers on Railway Street West and O’Shannessey Street were moved to Chapel Street and Opaheke Road after businesses and residents raised safety concerns.

Time-restricted parking for community service providers in the area was lost as a result, and AT has since been working to resolve the issue.

The local board wants the buses to use the former bus depot near the cemetery, and AT Metro is now evaluating the work needed to make the move possible.

The board will ask Auckland Transport to confirm the timeframe for that study and the physical work as a matter of urgency because buses continue to park in the area.

Auckland Transport has also received feedback from the bus operators on increased service costs, and on changes needed in the running of the service. Any changes are subject to variations in AT’s contract with the operator.
