Quay Street seawall strengthened as part of downtown transformation
Strengthening the Quay Street seawall is the first step towards creating a revitalised waterfront area.

The historic seawall along Quay Street is being seismically strengthened as part of Auckland's downtown transformation.

This is the first step towards a revitalised waterfront area, with wider footpaths, easier navigation, new street furniture, more trees, and greater opportunity for business and events.

The seismic strengthening programme will safeguard Auckland’s waterfront for the next 100 years.

This video shows the piling between Queens Wharf to Marsden Wharf – the oldest section of the seawall built in the 1800s:

Downtown Auckland is becoming a space that strengthens people’s connection with Waitematā Harbour – a vibrant, transformed environment for all to enjoy.
