Birkenhead Village presents: Captain Cook's potato scone recipe
When: Wednesday 9, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 October, 1pm - 2pm
Where: OTT Patisserie, 2 Birkenhead Ave, Birkenhead
Cost: Tickets $5, bookings required
Captain Cook first introduced the potato to South Island Māori in 1769.
Māori adopted the potato, as it resembled kumara (sweet potato) and could be grown in a similar fashion.
More importantly, potatoes tolerated cooler conditions than kumara. They were reliable and high-yielding, and quickly became a key crop.
Spaces are limited to 10 people per session. Children must be 8 - 15 years of age. Tickets are paid for on the day at OTT.
