A registered nurse and mum is supporting sustainable living in her community through recycle sales she’s spearheaded at St Heliers School Hall since 2008.
Sheena Capistrano-Panlilio wants to promote the importance of reducing waste to landfill amongst families in the Eastern Bays area to make sure life is good for future generations.
Encouraging families to sell and buy pre-loved or unwanted items is something Sheena says she’s passionate about.
“Buying pre-loved items is good for our environment. The recycle sales are an opportunity for families in the area to shift towards sustainable lifestyles by reducing, reusing and repurposing everyday items,” she said.
Sheena says the sales are also a great way for families to get household items in good condition at great prices. Toys, books, games, clothing, home décor, bags, shoes and baby gear are just some of the goods you’ll come across at one of Sheena’s recycle sales.
Ōrākei Local Board is supporting the events with a funding contribution from their local grants programme.
Chair Kit Parkinson says the local board is incredibly passionate about environmental protection.
“Starting at a local level by empowering community members to take on leadership roles is vital to achieving this. We want to make sure our children’s, children’s, children get to enjoy the same beautiful planet we’re lucky enough to experience now,” he said.
Sheena’s next Eastern Bays Mums Recycle Sale is happening on Sunday 10 November, 9am-12pm at St Heliers School Hall, 126 St Heliers Bay Road, St Heliers (entrance at Walmsley Road).
