A new park for Papakura is a step closer now that the concept designs for the first stage are approved. Because of its size, Hingaia Park will be built in stages, with the first stage establishing the park, pedestrian access, vehicle access and parking, stormwater, basic play facilities and landscaping.
The site is on the former Clotworthy Park on Hingaia Road and covers about 4000 square metres. The new park will provide more public space in an area experiencing rapid growth. The second stage of the park’s development will include more pedestrian paths, a secondary car park and active sports facilities including playing courts and a cycle pump track.
With Hingaia School opposite and AGC Strathallan nearby, both are expected to be involved in the park’s development, with Stathallan already planning a small orchard as the first stage of proposed community gardens on the site.
Ultimately more than $2million will be spent over four years on the park ahead of its completion in 2023. Detailed design will now take place with physical work expected to begin in the current financial year.
