Stormwater upgrade for Waiheke's Fourth Ave

Work is starting in Fourth Ave and Onetangi Road, Onetangi, to reduce road and property flooding in the area, and to improve the quality of the water flowing to the sea.

The work is being done by Auckland Council's Healthy Waters and includes upgrading and extending the existing stormwater pipeline and installing six new catchpits to better capture the stormwater from the road. Two small stormwater pipe outfalls at the beach will be replaced with one larger outfall.

To improve water quality, devices that collect rubbish and debris will be installed in all catchpits, and all inlets will be fitted with sumps which collect sediment.

Work will begin in October and is likely to be complete by mid-December 2019. If further works are required, they will take place after the summer season, from March 2020.

How will this affect you?

  • Construction works associated with the stormwater upgrade will affect traffic on Fourth Ave, Onetangi Rd, and The Strand for approximately two months
  • Sections of Fourth Ave between Onetangi Rd and The Strand will be reduced to one lane as the new pipes are installed
  • Temporary shoulder closures and speed restrictions may create congestion; please allow extra time for possible delays and diversions
  • There will be construction noise associated with open trench pipe installation and road reinstatement
  • A small area will be temporarily fenced off on Onetangi Beach during the project to allow the new outfall to be constructed safely.

To report an issue or for more information about the works, please contact the contractor, Kerry Drainage directly: Site Manager Trevor Greyling on 0272 043 943.
