Aucklanders generously donated $10,900 of food in response to Auckland City Mission’s recent food appeal.
Mayor Phil Goff says Auckland Council’s Public Libraries did a fantastic job of collecting food donations to support Auckland’s most vulnerable.
“Our public libraries are truly the heart of the community. With their help, Aucklanders donated enough food for the Mission to provide 168 family food parcels, which will feed 168 families of four, three meals a day for four days.
“My sincere thanks to everyone who gave so generously to support the Mission. Your contributions have made a significant difference to the lives of Auckland families who are living in need.”
Auckland City Mission’s CEO Chris Farrelly says the council’s support is vital to help the Mission to help others.
“Demand for emergency food parcels has increased by over 40 per cent in the past year and our stocks are critically low leading up to the busy Christmas period, so this extra boost of food donations has arrived at the right time.
“Thank you Auckland Council and Public Libraries for organising the food appeal, and to every Aucklander who contributed.
"We are extremely grateful to the many generous Aucklanders who continue to support the Mission throughout the year”, says Chris.
