Almost $20,000 has been awarded by the Franklin Local Board in its quick response funding round.
Among the grants is $1232 for the Ramarama School and District Reunion Committee, money that will allow the names of school students who have served since 1899 to be added to the school’s honours roll.
Board chair Andy Baker says Anzac and Armistice Day commemorations across the district take place every year and there is always a pledge to remember those who served.
“It’s fitting that a district will be able to commemorate its own when it gathers for the reunion. We Will Remember Them is not something we just say, it’s something we live up to," he says.
There will be new carpet and vinyl for the youngsters at Beachlands Playcentre, while at the other end of district, pests on the Awhitu Peninsula better watch out because Landcare has been awarded money for a global positioning system and laptop to manage the pest control programme.
Almost $40,000 was sought in the funding round, with several groups referred to other funding sources.
