A Guide To Auckland Libraries Podcasts

Looking for some fun reading ideas? Join The Great Summer Read over December and January to complete a series of fun, entertaining reading challenges.

When you complete a challenge, log it on aucklandlibraries.govt.nz/GSR and go in the draw to win prizes such as eReaders from Noel Leeming, designer glasses from Specsavers, Britomart vouchers, and more.

One challenge featured in The Great Summer Read this time around is "listen to an Auckland Libraries podcast". With plenty of podcasts to choose from, here's an introduction to some of the many highlights on offer:

Books & Beyond

Looking for your next read? You might want to check out Books & Beyond. This podcast features our very own librarians, Louisa Semmons and Alison Fitzpatrick, as they discuss topics such as pulp fiction, literary cats, emerging writers, and inspirational women. You'll also hear from kiwi authors including Joanne Drayton, children's author Peter Millett, and poet Paula Green.

HeritageTalks 2019

These audio recordings of Auckland Council Libraries' Heritage Talks feature historians discussing local and family history. Recent highlights include High Dickey's lecture on the growth of New Zealand towns and cities, Dr Joanna Boileau on Chinese Laundries in Aotearoa New Zealand, and famed family historian Nick Barratt talking about his experiences working on the television show Who Do You Think You Are.

Real Gold - Treasures of the Auckland Libraries Heritage Collection

If you're a history buff, then the Real Gold podcast is for you. Presented by Sue Berman, Auckland Council Libraries' oral history and sound librarian, each episode highlights items featured in the Real Gold Case in the Heritage Collections reading room at the Central City Library.

Items featured on the podcast include The Ladies Museum fashion plates, two Awabakal language manuscripts, and an 1851 map of Auckland. The Real Gold case changes every month, but you won't miss out with the podcast series!

You can find all of these Auckland Libraries podcasts and more on Soundcloud.
