Auckland Council and Waiheke Local Board have made the contingency drinking water supply available to the residents of Waiheke Island during the current water shortage on the island.
There are two water stations available:
- The Onetangi Sports Park, with access off O’Brien Road. The tap is located on the side of the sports building facing the playing fields, and the hydrant is by the water tanks
- The Matiatia carpark, behind the car rental yard, off Ocean View Road.
Residents are welcome to bring clean water containers to fill when these stations are open - up to 20 litres per person.
Waiheke Island relies on rainwater tanks for drinking water, and when a severe water shortage occurs these water stations are activated in these emergencies with the support of Waiheke Local Board.
Auckland Council asks that residents check with neighbours to make sure they are aware the water supply is available and that all use the water responsibly, ensuring that everyone gets their share.
- Water will be available from 7am–7pm daily
- When sufficient rainfall has been reached, the water stations will be closed.
