Taking part in a community facilities review has paid off for three lucky individuals whose contribution to feedback has won them each a free month membership at the Sir William Jordan Recreation Centre and the Onehunga War Memorial Pool, both operated by YMCA.
Onehunga has a range of community facilities and it is critical these facilities meet the needs of a growing and changing community. Auckland Council is looking at opportunities to improve the provision of community and indoor recreation services for Onehunga now and in the future, including Sir William Jordan Recreation Centre and Pearce Street Hall.
In October 2019, a public survey was undertaken to gain community insight into the range of activities undertaken, facilities used and to identify future needs of Onehunga residents and visitors. The survey was completed by over 350 community members.
“This competition was a great way to encourage people to let us know what they think of the indoor recreation and community services and facilities in Onehunga” explains Anita Coy-Macken of Visitor Solutions who were contracted to undertake a needs assessment review.
The draw for prize-winners was drawn on 26 February at the Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board office by Deputy Chair Debbie Burrows.
Insights from the Onehunga needs assessment will be reported to the local board in March 2020 and incorporated into the long-term vision for the area and management plans for the individual sights.
