Put your best foot forward and take a stroll or a ride along the new, boarded shared pathway around the perimeter of Norana Reserve.

Recently opened by Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board, the Norana Esplanade Walkway links Māngere Bridge at the northern end of Mahunga Drive with Favona via a 2.5m wide, 3.9km long pathway.

Suitable for pedestrians and those on scooters and bicycles, the path includes eight elevated timber boardwalks across mangrove, and wetlands and concrete paths across the estuary.

Funded by Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board, this public asset will be widely used by the community, says local board chair Lemauga Lydia Sosene.

“With our sedentary lifestyle, it’s important to have opportunities to stay active. This shared pathway will provide for safer walking and cycling route while better connecting our community across the area.”

The stage two of the project has already been consented for and once built the bridge will link across to Beach road in Favona and will be connected to the future Market Cove development and another Mahunga Drive connection.

Norana Walkway clean-up day

Bring your mates and whanau along to join Auckland Council, Sustainable Coastlines, CLL and Oxcon for an action-packed morning of coastal clean-up of Norana Walkway.

When: Saturday, 14 March, 9am to 12pm

Where: 57 Norana Avenue, Favona

You can find out more about what to expect and bring on the day, and register for the event here.

Once registered, you’ll receive important health and safety information, pick up sacks, gloves and other important equipment and be assigned a clean-up location in the surrounding area.

We’ll fan out across the area, clean-up the environment around this new walkway and congregate back at home base for a photo and some refreshments.
