YMCA North’s Camp Adair has received $4000 from the Franklin Local Board’s Quick Response grants programme.
The money will be used to upgrade the camp’s hot water system and comes after the camp, which hosts thousands of young people from Franklin and beyond, was awarded $11,127 for wastewater upgrades under the board’s local grants scheme.
Camp Adair at the foot of the Hunua Ranges has been hosting environmental and outdoor education camps for generations but has suffered in recent times from ailing infrastructure.
Board chair Andy Baker says the camp is also being supported by the Lotteries Commission and the board’s grants will allow it to position itself to keep serving the community.
“We are having to be mindful of our spending in the wake of COVID-19 and a number of applications were declined, but some of those were on the basis that there were other funding routes we were able to help with.”
