Keeping people at the heart of planning is the focus of Māngere-Ōtāhuhu’s draft Local Board plan that aims for a community where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive.

The board is now seeking public's input to tell them if they've got it right. The consultation has now started on the draft local board plan which will determine the board's priorities over the next three years.

Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board Chair Lemauga Lydia Sosene says that the board plans to work on outcomes that will keep our communities connected while providing growth opportunities to businesses and people, and where possible jobs to help with the local economic recovery.

“From the feedback people gave us earlier in the year, we have identified six outcomes to ensure we deliver on their expectations.

The proposed outcomes in Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board plan are:

  • A confident and sustainable local economy
  • We are building well-connected, engaged and active communities
  • Protecting our environment and heritage for future generations
  • Celebrating our unique Tangata Whenua and Pasifika identities
  • Our children and young people grow and succeed
  • We thrive and belong in safe, healthy communities

Ms Sosene says that the impacts of COVID-19 are still emerging so it is important to understand the community's expectations now.

“COVID-19 has and will have a major impact on our lives and is expected to change our priorities. Building resilience and providing our communities with new opportunities is important for us more than ever.

It will allow the local board to ensure the priorities are for the health and well-being of our local communities, she says.

“Our local board is committed to supporting our people and the local economy, and our draft local board plan outlines how we are going to do that.

"And that’s why we need you to tell us if we are headed in the right direction or are missing something important that needs to be considered."
