Ōrākei Community Centre brings a fun family day
Bring the kids and join us for a fun day of crafts, weaving and poi-making on Saturday 11 July at Ōrākei Community Centre, 156 Kepa Road. Write a wish to Hiwa i te Rangi, the wishing star in the Matariki cluster, or view the stars from inside a pop-up stardome as experts from Te Toki Voyaging Trust tell stories about voyaging, stars and waka.

Send wishes to a star and join a special Matariki waiata
Ahi Kaa is the concept of keeping the home fires burning and celebrating the strength of family and community. Ahi Kaa comes to Glen Eden Town Centre at 2pm on Tuesday 14 July around the time the Matariki stars rise.
Come along and write your message to a loved one or send your wish for the future to Hiwa i te rangi, the wishing star, and join us for the singing of a special Matariki waiata - the Waiata Maumahara - composed by students of Te Wharekura o Hoani Waititi. Must-watch kōrero with Professor Rangi Matamua
A Matariki Festival highlight, don’t miss Matariki on the Move: Kōrero – Te Whetū o te Tau. Watch the online release of a kōrero session from Professor Rangi Matamua as he talks about Matariki, the star cluster that heralds the start of the Māori new year and its connection to Māori divisions of time. View online via Matariki TV on Tuesday 14 July from 7 to 8pm.
Māori music stars close festival with an online concert
Brand new waiata from award-winning Māori musician, Maisey Rika, will bring the curtain down on an extraordinary Matariki Festival. This online event is happening from 7pm to 9pm on Wednesday 15 July.
Featuring the stunning vocal talents of Maisey Rika and including recently released singles from her new album Matariki i te Pō, this event will be live-streamed on Facebook in a virtual Matariki concert.
Supporting Maisey is one of New Zealand’s most prolific songwriters, APRA Silver Scroll Awards winner and Pacific RnB artist, Seth Haapu.
