Whau ward councillor Tracy Mulholland has welcomed the news that the Avondale Pavers project will go ahead.
The project was originally to replace the paving and upgrade the streetscape in the town centre at a cost of $1.8 million but was under threat because of a reduced budget due to the financial impact of COVID-19.
At its August Business Meeting, Whau Local Board agreed to modify the project and focus on replacing the slippery paving in a sizeable portion of the town centre for a reduced budget of $520,000.
Councillor Mulholland welcomed the decision.
“This is a project and an issue that has been close to my heart for a long time,” she says. “When I was chair of the board in the previous term, we agreed to the original streetscape upgrade.
“It has been a longstanding goal to get this work done and I would like to thank AT for being willing to find a compromise in a difficult situation as well as agreeing to contribute to the project financially.
“We know that the slippery pavings are extremely dangerous and we have needed this to be remedied for a long time.
“As Whau councillor I am committed to working with the relevant agencies to get things done and I’m delighted that this is something that will still happen, despite the impact of COVID-19 on council finances.”
