Growing interest in community gardens of Albert-Eden

A growing interest in community gardens in Albert-Eden has resulted in an abundance of fruit and vegetables this summer.

There are over 20 gardens in the Albert-Eden local board area where locals have enthusiastically and lovingly pitched in. These spots are a welcome haven for birds, butterflies and people.

“Our community gardens support wellbeing but now the harvest from them is really helpful.  They connect people but they also put locally grown fruits and vegetables on the table for people that may be struggling in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Albert-Eden Local Board Chair Margi Watson.

Albert-Eden Local Board funds Diabetes Projects Trust’s Gardens4Health team to deliver practical support and guidance to groups that may be interested in starting or joining one of the many community gardens in the local area.

There are thriving gardens in Balmoral, Kingsland, Mt Eden, Point Chevalier, Epsom, Sandringham, Mount Albert, Owairaka and Waterview.
