How well have you done this spring in attracting the return of bird song into your backyard?
Our native birds are particularly fond of berries, fruit, and insects so one of the best ways to attract the birds to your patch is with plants that will provide a supply of food.
Did you manage to plant a kowhai or flax this spring? If you haven’t had the time, or you're not sure where to starts, it’s never too late to learn.
With the longer days and fine weather grab the opportunity to get out, pull a weed, set a trap and get one or two of your favourite native plants into the garden.
And while your focus is on birds, head to the Bird of the Year 2020 and vote for your favourite native bird. Voting is open until 5pm, Sunday 15 November.
The 2019 winner was the cute Hoiho/yellow-eyed penguin.
