Users of Papakura’s Sir Edmund Hillary Library, named for the famous mountaineer, might have to do some climbing of their own.
The two main lifts at Accent Point, home to the library and museum, will be shut when upgrading work starts next month.
The building has two levels of public parking below the library, accessed from East Street.
But those who can’t take the stairs will be able to use a lift in the stairwell in the southern corner of the ground floor.
The other major change during the upgrade is that there will only be stair access from the level 2 carpark to the floors above.
Community library manager Cathy Cooper says, “We want everyone to keep coming, so we’re glad there is another lift in the building, especially for those with limited mobility or young families bringing prams.”
Pedestrian access from the Great South Road entrance is not affected during the upgrade and signage will be put in place at the lifts to direct people to the other entrances.
Accent Point’s fourth level is home to Elim Christian Church, whose members will also need to use the lift on the first level.
