The clock is ticking and Whau residents should have their say on the 10-year Budget before it is too late, says Whau ward councillor Tracy Mulholland.
With consultation on the budget, which sets rates levels, spending priorities and investment set to close on 22 March, time is very much running out to have your voice heard.
So far nearly 8000 people and groups have submitted their opinions and ideas since the consultation opened on 22 February.
Impact
Councillor Mulholland says that the budget will touch every aspect of council services and will have an impact for years to come.
“All aspects of the council’s delivery are included in the budget.
"From increasing capital investment to $31 billion over the next decade, to an additional $150 million to combat climate change, and a one-off rates increase of five per cent next year to offset the loss of income as a result of coronavirus, there are big issues we need your feedback on.
Savings
“At the same time, the budget also locks in $90m of the savings realised this current financial year for the next three years, proposes selling surplus property to invest in the critical infrastructure Auckland needs and temporarily increasing borrowing for the first three years of the 10-year Budget.
“Without doubt, there are ambitious plans in this budget and there are also big decisions that need to be made.
“So, it is really important that as many Whau residents have their say on the issues that will impact them in the coming years included in this budget.
Feedback
“It’s really easy to go online and give your feedback so please take a few minutes before 22 March to make sure your voice is heard in this process,” she says.
