Two poplars on Somerset Road have declined significantly in health recently, after being carefully monitored for some time, and now require removal.
The first tree was removed earlier in April and the second tree is scheduled to be removed this week.
This is being done so that they do not pose a health and safety risk to people and property, in particular those using Somerset Road to travel along and the nearby school campus.
“Puketāpapa Local Board is already active in supporting planting in our local board, and we know how much our community values trees,” says Puketāpapa Local Board Chair Julie Fairey.
“Unfortunately, the state of these two trees on Somerset Road means we have to remove them sooner than we had hoped. We are working on a long term plan for the Somerset Road trees as a part of a broader strategy along with experts from Auckland Council.”
“The removal will ensure the poplars are looked after as they come to the end of their natural lives and appropriate trees can grow in their space in the future for everyone in the community to enjoy and benefit from.”
