More than $28,000 in grants have been made to community, sports and arts groups in the Papakura Local Board area.
Board chair Brent Catchpole says allocating the available money from the board’s Papakura Small Grants budget is always a reminder of how many groups there are that add to the richness of the local community.
“In the latest round the board has elected to pay for football coaching for youngsters, for medals for young gymnasts, for tutors teaching members of the Chinese community calligraphy, and for activities associated with Sustainable Papakura, which does such a fine job in the town.
“Most of the groups we support rely on volunteers to provide endless hours of support and encouragement not only to young people, but to members of the senior community, to ethnic groups and to those continuing to gather new skills and interests.
“What the groups all have in common is that they add a little something to life in our area, and it is great to be able to support them in some small way.”
