’Tis the season for joy, tinsel and beautiful lights.
After the challenges of Aotearoa’s longest lockdown, Vector Lights returns this festive season with a spectacular light and sound interpretation of the 12 days of a Kiwi Christmas for families in Tāmaki Makaurau to enjoy, thanks to Auckland Council and Vector.
“Our community loved the Vector Lights during the last holiday season, and I am glad to see its return this year,” says Auckland Councillor and Environment and Climate Change chairpeson Richard Hills.
With the show using renewable energy technology, it promises to bring clean sparkle and shine to your summer nights.
“This is a visible and creative way to showcase smart energy technology while celebrating Auckland’s iconic harbour bridge”, says Councillor Hills.
Vector Lights is part of a 10-year smart energy partnership between Vector and Auckland Council in collaboration with the NZ Transport Agency.
Vector’s CEO Simon Mackenzie is thrilled to once again bring some joy to the festive season.
“Vector Lights is an experience and a destination for Aucklanders to come together and celebrate this time of year. “At the same time, Vector Lights is a great showcase for how clean, innovative, and sustainable energy projects can transform our city and act as a guiding light toward the new energy future. “On behalf of the team at Vector, we wish everyone a happy and safe festive season.”
The festive season show is based on the story A Pūkeko in a Ponga Tree by author Kingi Ihaka and has been created by lighting and visual design firm Mandylights.
The sustainable light show, and accompanying soundtrack, will repeat every 30 minutes from 13 to 24 December 2021 between 9pm and midnight.
The Vector Lights Festive Season show starts tonight and is part of the Christmas festivities occurring in the Central city, including the new light show in Te Komititanga Square delivered by Auckland Council, Heart of the City and Commercial Bay.
