Navigating through uncertainty while remaining focussed on priorities that keep people and the planet at the centre of decision making is the defining element of Auckland Council’s Annual Budget for 2022-23, says Albert-Eden-Puketāpapa Ward Councillor.
At the time of the Annual Budget 2022-23, Auckland Council has forecast a budget shortfall of $85 million compared to what was planned in the 10-year Budget.
“A shortfall in spending means that we will have to re-prioritise on some of our originally planned goals and it calls on us all to be patient as time-frames get extended on projects,” says Councillor Casey.
The ongoing COVID–19 pandemic has impacted the whole world and, along with the budget shortfall, it has changed the way in which many of us live and work.
The Climate Action Targeted Rate will result in resources to support public transport infrastructure regionally and locally, allowing everyone in their individual capacity and local level to do their bit for a sustainable future, she says.
“The budget factors in our commitment to climate action and this is reflected in the Climate Action Targeted Rate,” says Councillor Casey.
Rates for Aucklanders will remain at the previously signalled 3.5 per cent, as agreed in the 10-year Budget.
