It was all about the playgrounds for Henderson-Massey Local Board during its most recent business meeting, with approval given for three playgrounds in the area.

The upgraded playground at Moire Park in Massey, as well as playground refreshes for Taipari Strand and Jack Pringle Village Green in Te Atatu Peninsula all received the thumbs up from the board, and now move on to the next stage of their development.

Moire Park

Moire Park playground will be upgraded from the current dated small playground into a large playground suitable for a variety of ages on a budget of $776,792.

Consultation took place in 2019 with key themes from the process helping to shape the new design, which will also keep the basketball court on site. Physical works are expected to begin in April.

Taipari Strand

Taipari Strand also underwent community consultation for the $303,216 budget project, with the revised concept plan incorporating sand play and items to cater for a wide range of age groups. Physical works are set to run through July-October 2022.

Jack Pringle Village Green

Jack Pringle Village Green playground concept is currently out for consultation and includes water play and fencing. The project budget is $356,110 and following consultation feedback physical works are set for July-August 2022.

Here before you know it

Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair Vanessa Neeson says that the playgrounds will be here before you know it.

“It’s great to be able to agree on these concept plans. Our communities love their playgrounds, they provide such a hub for young families and cater for a wide range of people, so they are important assets for the community.

“I know people have been waiting for a long time for these to come, but the wait is almost over. Now the concepts are agreed you’ll really see movement happening, with all three playgrounds on track to be ready and open by the end of the year.

“The board is delighted to have been able to bring these projects to fruition and can’t wait to see them in action.”
