Auckland Council and Boosted are pleased to announce the twenty-five projects that will receive matched grants as part of the Auckland Arts Comeback initiative.
Auckland Councillor Alf Filipaina, Chair of Council’s Parks, Arts, Community and Events Committee says the calibre of the projects was incredible.
“There were so many great projects submitted. It was a challenge to get the number down to just twenty-five but the ones that have been selected are amazing. It is a reminder of how talented the creative sector in Tāmaki Makaurau is. I am looking forward to watching these artists’ projects on the Boosted website as they go through crowdfunding process and learning more about their plans for project execution.”
Supporting the creative sector in Tāmaki Makaurau is important according to Councillor Filipaina.
“The arts have been one of Auckland’s sectors hardest hit by COVID-19 protection measures so helping artists build long-term sustainability is the right thing to do.”
The twenty-five selected Tāmaki creatives will seek donations through their Boosted crowdfunding campaign, encouraging co-investment with Aucklanders.
This will be matched by a grant from Auckland Council of $2000, once the crowdfunding total surpasses $2000.
The successful artists will also receive mentoring and support from Boosted.
The creative projects selected include a wide range of genres and represents the diverse communities that make up Tāmaki Makaurau, something that excites Boosted General Manager Jessica Palalagi.
“Tāmaki Makaurau artists have really responded, and the creativity is clearly evident in what has been submitted.”
The creatives behind the different projects are looking forward to getting started according to Jessica.
“So many of the creatives were absolutely thrilled to have their project selected and supported. They can’t wait to share something that audiences in Tāmaki Makaurau will enjoy.”
Included in the twenty-five projects are a podcast series, theatre shows, dance performances, visual art exhibitions, comedy shows, web series, photography exhibitions and music videos.
The mentoring workshops that started this week are an integral part of the Auckland Arts Comeback initiative.
“The mentoring workshops are designed to expand the toolkit creatives already have to connect with their giving communities and learn more skills in promoting their projects,” says Jessica.
“These workshops with Boosted are about sharing skills and networks across the sector which contributes tools to creatives now and into the future strengthening their resilience and communities.”
The crowdfunding period starts Friday 1 April. This is an opportunity for the people of Tāmaki and Aotearoa to back the arts and support creatives directly, by going to the Boosted website, where they can explore artists' projects and make a donation.
