Plans to improve the lighting in Henderson Town Centre have received a boost following the allocation of $30,000 for an assessment to be undertaken and an implementation plan to improve the lighting in the area.
Henderson-Massey Local Board allocated the funding, available due to underspend as a result of COVID-19 impacts, to the Henderson Business Association.
The Association will use the funding to complete an assessment of the current lighting in the area, including both public and private parts of the centre, to identify areas with inadequate lighting, and to develop an implementation plan to improve it.
Safer place
Henderson-Massey Local Board Chair, Vanessa Neeson, says that this is a step towards making Henderson a safer place.
“Improving visibility and upgrading poor lighting in Henderson will play an important role in making the town centre much safer for the community”, she says.
“This step will allow the area to be assessed and a proper plan put in place to improve the lighting.
“It ties in with the Henderson Town Centre Plan, which aims to improve safety in various ways, one of which is through better lighting.
“Having a safer Henderson Town Centre will make a huge difference to the community, encourage more people into the area and support local businesses along the way.
“So we are really pleased to be able to reallocate this money towards a really important cause, and look forward to seeing the results of this piece of work and a thorough implementation plan for improving the lighting in the future.”
