Nominations Open

Nominations are now open for people who are passionate about Auckland – so it’s time to put your name forward as a candidate in the local elections.

Download your nomination form or find out where to pick it up.

Auckland Council’s Manager Governance Services, Rose Leonard says, “this is the opportunity for Aucklanders to throw their hats in the ring to represent their community and, ultimately as a team, achieve great outcomes for our region.”

To be nominated, candidates need to be a New Zealand citizen, 18 years of age or over and on the New Zealand electoral roll. Your nomination form needs to have signatures from two voters registered in the area where you are standing, and a deposit of $200 (this is refunded if you poll greater than 25 per cent of the lowest successful candidate). Your form must be hand delivered in hard copy by midday 12 August 2022 to the Electoral Office at Level 2, 198 Federal Street, Auckland or at select venues listed here.

“We’re hoping to see a range of people from different backgrounds stand in the elections,” says Rose.

“There are 170 seats to be contested and in the  last election we received 400 nominations – we’re expecting an even better turnout of candidates this term.”

For everything you need to know about being a candidate in the local elections, visit the vote Auckland website and have a look at the handbook at voteauckland.co.nz/candidatehandbook. Once all nominations are in on 12 August, voters can find out more about candidates and their priorities for Auckland on the Vote Auckland website.
