Supporting Events That Bring Our Communities Together

Auckland Council’s Parks, Arts, Community and Events Committee has approved 22 applications for grants totalling $325,000 through round one of the 2022/2023 Regional Event Grants Programme.

Councillor Alf Filipaina, chair of the committee, says events help bring communities together and it is important that we continue to support the sector as it rebuilds from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“All of us have missed out on a lot over the last few years as many events have had to be postponed or cancelled.

“We know how much people love participating in events across Tāmaki Makaurau and it’s more important than ever in these trying times that we continue to work together with our communities to bring back our favourite festivals and support new ones.”

Aucklanders can look forward to an exciting line-up, including the Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta, Auckland Pride Festival, Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park, Farmers Santa Parade, InterACT Disability Arts Festival and the Te Ahurea Tino Rangatiratanga Festival.

Auckland Council’s Events Manager David Burt says this fund is all about giving communities the opportunity to get out there and connect with each other and their local places.

“It’s great to see that we are using this fund to support a range of sporting, cultural and arts events that recognise and celebrate Auckland’s diversity and creativity.”

“Lots of special memories are created with our friends and whānau/’aiga at events, so keep an eye out on what’s coming up in our region and make the most of it,” adds Councillor Filipaina.
