New councillor for Manukau Ward

Manukau Ward has provisionally elected incumbent Councillor Alf Filipaina with 13,923 votes and Lotu Fuli, with 12,248 votes. Fuli will likely be taking mayoral candidate Efeso Collins’ seat as councillor for the Manukau Ward.

The Waitematā and Gulf Ward shows Mike Lee currently leading with 7662 votes. That’s 1257 votes ahead of incumbent Councillor, Pippa Coom.

This is not the first time the two candidates have faced each other and is a revival of the 2019 race for the Waitematā and Gulf seat. At that time, in 2019, Coom was elected by a margin of 320 votes.

Whau Ward close calls

“We have been delighted with the success of the Vote Boxes," says Rose Leonard, Auckland Council’s Manager Governance Services. “Last-minute special voting has been busier than previous elections and we’re feeling encouraged that voters have made that last-minute effort.
“The preliminary result on Monday 10 October will give us a clearer indication of candidates’ positions after Saturday’s morning votes have been included.
“There may be some close calls between ward councillors and local board candidates in some areas. All elected members will be confirmed when we receive the final count next Saturday* from Independent Election Services, which will also include the special votes. Once declared, these official results will determine the new council,” comments Rose.
