A major sailing event and a global pandemic over the last couple of years has made it difficult to hold our usual summer family activities in Silo Park. This year however, some new activities and old favourites are set to return and will be free for all to enjoy.

The famous Silo Cinema is back, bringing Hollywood to Aotearoa’s most unique outdoor movie screen. With four movies scheduled to screen from 23 December 2022 – 10 February 2023, there will be plenty of opportunities to cosy up and watch the cinematic magic unfold on Silo 7 from the comfort of the Silo Park lawn.

To kick off the return of Silo Cinema, the first screening will provide some holiday cheer. What Christmas movie will be played is up to you though, so vote for your favourite on the Silo Park Facebook page. There are four festive finalists for you to choose from - Gremlins (1984), Home Alone (1990), The Grinch (2018) or Last Christmas (2019).

Whatever the film may be, gather your friends and whānau down to Silo Park on Friday 23 December for a jolly end to the week and a merry start to the summer season. Festivities start from 5pm where you can come down for a twilight drink from the Silo Park Bar and a delicious meal from the food trucks. The movie screening will start at 9pm once the sun sets.

Further movies scheduled include Thor: Love and Thunder on 13 January 2023, another people’s choice cult classic selected by you on 27 January 2023 and a special pride edition screening of Everything Everywhere All at Once on 10 February 2023.

But it’s not all about the big screen – there are other exciting activities planned to take place over the summer including iSpy Silo Park, an interactive and humorous hunt of real-life “Where’s Wally”. Live from 28 January, this self-guided experience will take you on an adventure around the waterfront and has difficulty levels suitable for all ages.

Then on 11 March, the waterfront is set to hold its very own Pikiniki Teti Pea / Teddy Bear’s Picnic on the lawn in Silo Park. A classic children's event loved and cherished by many, it’ll be a fun day out for the whole family, and certainly a picnic to remem-bear.

All programming organised for Summer at Silo Park is free to attend and everyone is welcome. This annual celebration is brought to you by Fresh Concept and Eke Panuku. For more details on what’s planned, please visit the silopark.co.nz website.
