The demolition of the historic Colonial Ammunition Company Shot Tower on Normanby Road in Mt Eden will begin tomorrow (Tuesday 21 February).
Auckland Council’s Director Regulatory Services Craig Hobbs says the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has confirmed approval for the shot tower demolition to begin.
“We have been advised by MBIE that Minister Megan Woods has given approval for the shot tower to be demolished.
“Work will begin tomorrow (Tuesday) and our contractors expect it will take approximately seven days to complete.
“Residents who were evacuated ahead of Cyclone Gabrielle hitting Auckland on Monday 13 February won’t be able to move back into their homes until the works are finished.
“We are working at pace so that we can safely get people back into their homes,” says Mr Hobbs
The council has advised all residents, by email and by phone call this morning, and will continue to keep residents directly updated on progress with the demolition work and re-entry into their homes.
Residents in surrounding buildings and businesses will be communicated with over the course of today.
