Budget that remains unspent from Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board’s revitalising town centres work programme has been reallocated to community grants.
Chair Apulu Reece Autagavaia says $22,000 will go a long way to helping community groups, especially in the wake of flooding and Cyclone Gabrielle.
The money comes from budget allocated for the Lantern Festival, which was unable to go ahead during the adverse weather.
“We are hugely grateful for the enormous contribution that community groups made in the wake of the storms. The value of community was really brought into the spotlight and while $22,000 is not the millions we are going to need, it is still money people will welcome having access to.”
Another $4000 unspent from civic events, largely those cancelled by bad weather, was reallocated to engagement around the city’s Annual Budget, open for public feedback until 28 March.
